Zoe (W's) first blog!!!

Agenda~
Blog
The Outsiders ch.8
Reading Journal check
HW~ Back to school night tonight @ 6-8

So today we started with Nico reading his blog out loud to the class. He then had to choose a girl to do the blog next and he picked me!!! Yay! I think. So we read our summaries from our reading journals to a partner, and Ms. Nakada uses her super cool awesomely awesome new class name generator to randomly pick somebody to start the chapter eight summary. Ugh this is really hard writing the blog and doing the work. She chooses Ari and we start the summary. I just noticed this picture of Mr. Hastings dressed as a duck in a dress. So manly. Ms. Nakada lets us have a reader's workshop for the rest of the period while she checks our reading journals.

Oh No! Ms. Nakada caught me taking a picture!

I feel so alone up here. The classroom is so quiet because everyone's reading. Do I put an apastrophe, no apostraphe, apostrophe, ugh I can't spell it in everyone's? I have no clue. [Yes, you do :) Ms. Nakada]. Aaah the bells gonna (oh excuse me going to) ring soon!

Gotta go see you laters!!!
Byeez!!!

THE OUTSIDERS
PG. 119-130

Hey Nerds, oh oops. I guess you guys aren't Nerds anymore because you know last year with the thing and that other thing, which lead to that other, other thing, but then another thing happened and... well, never mind. Let me start over.

Hey Mockingbirds? I guess that works. Anyway, Mockingbirds, today in class, we began with Ms. Nakada reading her blog post aloud and then me being picked to do the next blog. Yay, I think. Here I go. The first thing us Mockingbirds did was take out our English notebooks and finish our notes on the first 6 chapters of The Outsiders. Next, the class added a new page of notes to their table of contents, The Outsiders, which will cover the rest of the book (chapters 7-12). We set up the page for cornell notes and began summarizing the chapters. Eventually, the class finished up their notes and we transitioned into the next event on the agenda, guest speaker. Our guest speaker today is named Ana Plascencia, and she is here to talk to us about the journey from middle school to college. A few years back, she graduated from Emerson Middle School and enrolled in Hamilton High School. Ana explained how doing your homework ever day and studying your brains out is the key to success in school. She also went over what she is studying in college and how over the years, she has learned so much about the outside world. OH! A minute left. Gotta wrap things up. Ding! Ding! That's the bell.
Nico Out!

Today we start off by taking our English notebooks out and turning to page 7 and putting Quality Work/ Mistakes to Avoid. We start off our notes with Quality Work Rubric. I didn't finish the notes so I guess I have to get them from someone bummer. Ms. Nakada explains hows she sees mistakes in the blogs about people using the wrong words. Now we are taking out our quick write from Friday. We now have 10 minutes to finish our quick write. People are starting on their hw. I accidently wrote an extra sentence for my summary I guess I am still tired from last night's play. People are passing papers back and our portfolios. We are writing down our assignments and seeing what grade we got for each. People are talking and I am her just lonely #loner. Ms. Nakada now tells the students to pack up.

Ch. 5 Summary
Close Read for Class Differences
HW RJ 2.4 T.O. pg. 85-99

Well, this is my first blog post.  I volunteered so I can get it out of the way.

I'll start off my saying Period 2 is the best, because we were the first class to get 10 points!  We took a vote for pizza, doughnuts, or popsicles.  I voted for popsicles, but that got booted out first.  Then I voted for doughnuts but pizza won the vote.  Life is hard.  :(

We started with sharing our reading journals with a partner.  Then we took out our The Outsiders notes and wrote down the gist of chapter 5.

Then, we reviewed what we did yesterday, which was STEP-UP/I.C.E./QUICK WRITE.  We continued working on the quick write prompt, which was: In the novel, The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, the three Curtis brothers are very different from each other.

Here is a picture of Mr. Hastings dressed as a duck lady (silly Hastings)

This is the class doing stuff.

Okay, bye!

close reading
ch. 3 of T.O.
English scores
H.W.
RJ 2.2 T.O. p. 53 - 67

Honestly, I'm not really sure how to do this, so I'm just making up sentences as I go. I'm not even sure if I'm doing this correctly, but I guess I'll find out once I present this. So far today we're just taking notes on our new page in our English Notebooks. This is actually really easy. I don't have to answer questions or even pay attention. This is great, thanks Isaac.  Okay, so we're still taking notes about the difference between reading for entertainment and close reading.

Now, we're taking out our reading journals and reading our summaries to each other. Fun fact, I'm not going to be here tomorrow. I'm actually going to San Diego Wednesday through Thursday. Wow, I miss a lot of school. I wonder how long this should be. I hope it's not too short nor too long. And now we have another page in our table of contents with English Scores. The bell rang okay bye.

agenda:

hw: rj 2.1

who are you... due tomorrow

We're taking out our writers notebooks we are writing abut elements of plot. Everything has elements of plot and drawing a triangle:
characters
setting
conflict (#important)
rising action
climax
denouement
resolution
Now we're doing a triangle for chapter 1.The book takes place in oklahoma. paul newman means year, Nico said the book takes place in the 70's. "Silly Nico, it was in the early 60's," says Ms. Nakada. Ponyboy gets jumped is the conflict. He was scared, they pin him on the ground and put a knife on throat but gang saves life (#yay!) The chapter was boring and stuff. Now we're doing the same thing for chapter 2.
Ms. Nakada makes a political reference about Palestine and that whole deal. Now we're writing the who are you like it says in the agenda. I think mine is going well. I like pizza. Here's a picture of me kissing myself, like a boss.

Who are you?

HW:

Who Are You? (final draft due Tuesday)

Today we began by sharing our reading journals with an elbow partner and talking in detail about chapter 2. It's pretty obvious that almost everyone here ships Chonyboy (Cherry and Ponyboy). After that we went back to My Life as a Writer and discussed the writing process. In case anyone forgot to write it down it was;
Pre-writing: outline, brainstorm, thinking about what to write.
Drafting: write it down, prose use sentences and paragraphs, poetry lines and stanzas.
Revising: big idea changes.
Editing: check spelling, punctuation, capitalization, word choice.
Publishing: Sharing your writing.

Finally, we began our Who Are You? project where we have to show who we are on a piece of paper. It was a really fun day!

Here's everyone working hard on their projects.

Agenda
Welcome
Course Outline
Blog
HW: Return course outline
Get supplies

It's the first day of school and already second period. Wow. So, all of my second period students came to class and were assigned seats. Danika was less than impressed with hers, but, you know. I'm sure she'll survive.

I signed program cards as students wrote the agenda. Then students read over the course outline and syllabus for first semester making annotations to the text as I called roll. We then went over the course expectations, materials, homework, grading, and rules. We turned the paper over and talked about the books we will be reading to start the year. We will look at questions like "What is home?" and "What does it mean to take a stand?" as we read Inside Out & Back Again, A Young People's History of the United States,  The Outsiders, and To Kill A Mockingbird.

Once we finished we came up with our blog name and this is it! I happen to think it's one of the best blog names ever...

Here is second period before they were dismissed to nutrition. Happy first day!
